The SGLGBF was
set up in 1997 shortly after the creation of South Gloucestershire Council
when Avon County Council was broken up. The aim has always been for the
Forum to represent the LGB community and question the Council on its
policies and procedures as they affect us.
Like all
organisations, we have evolved over the years, with highs and lows that
reflect the level of commitment its members have. Currently, there is a
new impetus to engage more with the area's minority groups, and given that
the LGB community is one of the largest (estimated at 6% or about 15,000
people), new efforts are being made.
Principally,
this is led by the Council's Equalities Team, but they can only bas as
effective as the Forum's members are. Where scrutiny or consultation is
needed, it helps to have experts and interested parties available. If you
can help, you can either attend our meetings or use your mouse to make
your feelings know.
